Sen Tina Smith (D-Winn.) Destroyed the Secretary of Health and Human ServicesRobert f. Kennedy Junior. On Thursday, he suggested that psychiatric drugs given to children may partially be guilty of school shooting.
“I dare you to go to Annotion School and tell our grieving community, in fact, guns do not kill children, do antidepressants,” Smith Social platforms were written on X. “Just shut up. Close the pedaling bull —-. You should be removed.”
Kennedy has long argued that selective serotonin Reppetech inhibitors (SSRIs), a class of antidepressants that enhance serotonin and lift mood, are especially overcome for children.
“Fox and Friends” co-magnet Brian Kilmede asked Kennedy if his agency was looking at the possibility that psychiatric drugs used to treat gender dysforia were partially guilty of firing.
In the shooting of Robin Westman, Minnesota, 23 -year -old suspect, in which 2 children died, she was born and applied for a name change in 17 to reflect a female identity, according to the court records. Some conservatives have seized online on the gender identity of Westman to portray transgender people as mentally ill.
In response to Kilmede, Kennedy Junior said his agency “was starting a study on the possible contribution of some SSRI drugs and some other psychiatric drugs that could contribute to violence.”
SSRI is not used exclusively to treat penis dysforia, but can be determined for depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders that are experienced at particular high rates among transgender individuals.
Kennedy has also encouraged the baseless theory that chemicals in the environment are contributing to boys who experience gender dysphoria.
Wednesday’s shooting has ruled a nationwide debate on gun control, mental health and school safety as tens of million students are ready to return to classes.
Smith and other Democrats say that the attention of many conservatives on mental health and antidepressants is a distraction from the greatest problem: easy access to high -power firearms.
Smith said, “There are 400 million guns in this country. More guns than people. In America, we are ten times more likely to shoot in school or playground than any other developed nation.” Another x post,
