Good news for anyone who’s tired or embarrassed by their current Gmail address: You may soon be able to change it without losing access to your old emails and files.
As first spotted by the Google Pixel Hub group on Telegram Later reported in 9to5GoogleThe Hindi version of the Gmail support website says that Google is gradually introducing the ability for all users to change the email address associated with their Google Account, including changing from their current Gmail address “to a new email address that ends with” gmail.com,
If you switch, your old Gmail account will still serve as an alias, and you’ll be able to sign in to Google services with your new or old address. However, you will not be able to create any additional Gmail addresses associated with your account for the next 12 months.
By Sunday afternoon, English language version of the help site Still states, “If your account’s email address ends in @gmail.com, you usually can’t change it” and suggests instead name change Associate the address or sign up for a new address and then transfer the emails and contacts.
