X’s encrypted DM feature, XChat, is rolling out more broadly

X long awaited Encrypted DMS FacilityXchat, getting more widely available.

Although facility Loired In Beta in May, Xchat is now accessible to more users, including those who do not take membership of the X premium.

Separate from the current DM inbox, Xchat and-to-end is encrypted. The chat system supports the ability to upload media, group chat, pinned messages and messages or to mark the messages. There is a rumor to work with vanishing mode.

Right now, users can only use Xchat if they choose to use it. On the desktop, the Xchat is accessible to some users from the message tab. There, you can navigate to “chat” from a menu option that appears above the “message requests”. On mobile, “chat” appears above the communities, on the left bar.

Before using Xchat, you have to set a four digit code to protect your messages, similar to other encrypted platforms such as signals. It is only after setting this code that you can start messaging other users who have also chosen.

As it stands, Xchat is not a complete replacement of the DM system for a long time. Instead, those messages now appear under a tab that says “unnovated” in the chat menu.
