Warriors’ Stephen Curry (knee) out at least five more games

San Francisco — Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry The team said Sunday that he will miss at least five more games because of a persistent problem with his right knee.

The Warriors were initially optimistic that Curry could return after last month’s All-Star break, but he suffered a setback in a workout that weekend and told the athletic training staff that he was not ready for live work upon returning to the facility.

The Warriors suspended him from court duty for 10 days. He was seen doing weight-lifting squats on his right knee in the locker room pregame on Saturday. The team says Curry is making progress but has not yet progressed to on-court work.

“It’s going to be a little longer,” Curry said. “Right now, with this, it’s about every day, can you string together good days? I’ve done that. Hopefully they can get me on the court soon and hopefully back sooner than later.”

The Warriors are 31-29, are seeded eighth and appear to be headed to the play-in tournament. Curry has repeatedly expressed his desire to find a way to return to the court behind the scenes and push the Warriors to a playoff series, but hurdles remain before getting approval.

“Trying to stay in shape, stay strong on everything else around the body, knowing at this level, once you get back, it’s an absolute race to the playoffs,” Curry said. “Once I get back on the court, it’s a little bit sore to bear. But it’s something you don’t want to have for a long time because it could get worse.”
