Vice President Vance criticized New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s comments on Islamophobia in the United States following the September 11, 2001 attacks.
“According to Zoharan, the real victim of 9/11 was his aunt, who was (allegedly) given an evil eye,” Vance. said on saturday Responding to a video of Mamdani’s comments shared by a user on social platform X.
Mamdani, during an address on Islamophobia on Saturday, mentioned her late aunt, whom she said stopped taking the city subway after the September 11, 2001 attacks because she felt unsafe wearing a hijab.
The Hill has contacted Mamdani’s campaign and the vice president’s office for further comment.
Mamdani’s comments come after independent mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo laughed off radio host Sid Rosenberg’s suggestion last week that the Democratic nominee would be “happy” if an event like September 11, 2001, happened today.
“God forbid, another 9/11. Can you imagine Mamdani in the seat?”. Cuomo said on WABC’s “Sid & Friends in the Morning.”
Rosenberg replied, “I could, he’d be cheering.”
