Trump-endorsed candidate launches primary challenge against Massie

Republican Ed Galren, who was endorsed by President Trump to challenge Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Y.), launched his campaign on Tuesday to challenge the incumbent Republican in the state’s 4th Congressional District.

“This district is Trump country. The President doesn’t need obstructionists in Congress – he needs backup. I will defeat Thomas Massie, stand shoulder to shoulder with President Trump, and deliver the America First results that Kentuckians voted for,” Galren said in a statement.

Galren’s campaign began after Trump endorsed him in a TruthSocial post on Friday.

“I expect Ed to run against Massey, who is now polling at about 9% because the great people of Kentucky are wise to him — he only votes against the Republican Party, which makes life a lot easier for the radical left,” the president wrote in a Friday post on Truth Social.

He said, “Unlike ‘Lightweight’ Massey, a completely ineffective loser who has failed us so badly, Captain Ed Gallren is a winner who won’t let you down.”

Trump and Massey have fallen out after Republican lawmakers broke with the president on a number of policy issues, including Trump’s massive reconciliation package, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Additionally, Massey has teamed up with progressive Representative Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) to release files related to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In turn, Macy’s has tried to capitalize on Trump’s criticism. The Republican has more than $2 million in cash available for his re-election bid after receiving $768,000 in contributions from July to September, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission.

“After being rejected by every elected official in the 4th District, Trump’s advisers clearly hit the panic button with their choice of failed candidate and establishment hack Ed Galren,” Massey said. “Ed has been begging them to choose him for over three months now.”
