President Trump announced on Monday that his administration would impose 25 percent tariffs on imports from South Korea and Japan. As part of a batch of letters going abroad on 1 August.
Trump expanded the tariff rates expected in letters to the leaders of Japan and South Korea, also posted to the truth social. The President had earlier indicated that he would send letters to about a dozen countries on Monday.
Trump wrote to the two countries, “Please understand that this 25% number is necessary to eliminate trade deficit inequality with your country.”
The President warned that if either the nation raises its tariff in response, the US would increase its tariff with the same amount.
“As you know, there will be no tariff if Korea, or companies within your country, decide to make or manufacture products within the United States and in fact, we will make every possible effort to get approval quickly, in other words, in other words, quickly, professional and regularly – in other words,” Tram wrote to the President of South Korea.
He also gave the same message to the Prime Minister of Japan.
