The Trump administration has initiated a national security check in the import of wind turbines and their components – a step that can eventually lead a high tariff for wind energy.
Investigation, which marks the latest salvo in administration Efforts to stop wind energyOn Thursday, a federal register was announced in the notice.
“On August 13, 2025, the Commerce Secretary began an investigation to determine the impact on the National Security of Pawan Turbine and their parts and components,” Notice says,
This clearly does not explain the reasons behind the investigation or evidence, and the Bureau of Industries and the Security Bureau did not immediately answer questions from the hill.
But the administration requested public information on topics including the role of foreign supply chains, foreign government subsidies and influence of hunter business practices and whether foreign-made wind turbines and their parts have any ability to make weapons.
The investigation was started under Section 232 of the Trade Extension Act. Such investigations are considered to determine the national security effects of imports and allow the administration to make adjustments with tariffs based on their results.
