The Trump administration told the Supreme Court on Thursday to allow the National Institute of Health (NIH) to move forward with the cancellation of grants on its connection for diversity initiative.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) asked the court for an emergency migration that will stop Boston -based US District Judge William Young ReignWhich stopped the cancellation and forced the government to restore several grants.
The case was focused on a legal challenge by researchers, unions and coalitions of 16 democratic leadership states. He sued the administration after NIH abolished the grants supporting research on subjects such as health equity, racial inequalities, vaccine hesitation and maternal health in minority communities.
Sudden cancellation was part of the administration’s discovery and Trump officials are considered to promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) to eliminate federal support to spend.
The DOJ wrote in the filing, “The District Court order directs NIH to continue paying $ 783 million in federal grants which is undeniably counter for the priorities of the administration.”
“After the change in administration, NIH identified, explained and followed new funding priorities. It is democracy at work, not, as the district court thought, unfair ‘favor[ship]The filing states that the agency is a permissible basis alone to take action. ,
The Trump administration has repeatedly asked the Supreme Court to step into the policies by the lower courts. The administration had a 21st emergency application since assuming Thursday’s filing post, and the White House has been successful in almost every example.
