Tesla profit tanked 46% in 2025

Tesla’s profit in 2025 fell 46% from the previous year as CEO Elon Musk took on a role in the Trump administration and federal electric vehicle subsidies were shut down by Congress, causing sales to decline.

The electric vehicle company reported Wednesday that it reported a full-year profit of just $3.8 billion, the lowest in years. Tesla had already revealed that it shipped 1.63 million cars globally in the year. This is the second consecutive year it has seen its sales decline after years of Musk promising average annual growth of 50%.

The profit decline comes as Tesla continues to try to attract investor attention from its stalled automotive business.

“2025 is an important year for Tesla as we further expand our mission and continue our transition from a hardware-focused business to a physical AI company,” the company wrote in its shareholder letter.
