Target joins OpenAI’s growing list of retail apps

OpenAI is moving deeper into retail, aiming to launch a new ChatGPT-powered app for shoppers in the coming weeks.

The news follows OpenAI’s move last month to add dedicated retail apps to ChatGPIT, including Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify, and Zillow. It also comes to join the race for OpenAI AI-powered commerce through new products such as “Instant Checkout” Which lets users make purchases while interacting with retailers like Etsy and Shopify.

According to OpenAI, the Target app in ChatGate will launch in beta next week, and will let shoppers solicit ideas, browse and create multi-item baskets, shop for food, and check out.

The deal deepens OpenAI’s existing enterprise partnership with Target. Target will now roll out ChatGPT Enterprise to its 18,000 employees at its headquarters, which will be used for things like better supply chain forecasting and streamlining store processes. Target will also integrate OpenAI’s models into digital tools that will provide everything from employee support and customer service to AI-powered shopping assistants and personalized gift finders.
