In July, the CEO of National Public Radio cried and moved, claiming that his organization may not survive without government money.
This week, however, the same news organization claimed that the taxpayer was performing anytime when working on its first day without dollars – probably even better.
In other words, critics of NPR were right about blaming it. NPR never needed those dollars. It just wanted them.
“Today is the first day in public media history without federal funding,” news groupSaid in a statementOn 1 October. “This is the beginning of a new chapter – but we are not going anywhere. With your help, we will take you honest, rigorous journalism that does not bend for the interests of shareholders.”
The statement said, “We will still have a microphone for American sounds that may be otherwise unheard. And we will always stand behind our first modification for a free press. On this historic day, your donation saves one of the last places where America comes together to listen to itself, understands each other, and accepts that we are always related to a change story.”
In a graphic uploaded on Facebook, NPR also announced in an all-cap, “We won’t be silent.”
The news room staff offered the same pride on social media elsewhere.
“This is the first day when the NPR was established, it has not received federal support,” NPR host beamScott simon“And we are here, strong, important, and we will continue to serve with the audience of millions of people, no fees, no pell and all divisions. We hope you all will support your local stations to serve America.”
Host Leela Fadle also declared free from government funding on the first day of NPR, “We will not be easily silent. We will continue to advocate for truth – for facts. We will ask our listeners, American public questions, even if we are asking that we do not like our questions.”
First of all, it is a little rich from an organization that was very keen to participate in the censorship campaign against the New York Post after later. This is next to the point, though. The issue is that this week the NPR will be quoted to prevent any effort by NPR to refund taxpayer funding by NPR.
The NPR did not really need those government deer. This just preference to easy, guaranteed payment. With PBS, funding was never necessary. Like PBS, NPR always had a viable commercial product and an audience. It has always been able to survive on its own compared to many independent news organizations, despite the claims of NPR’s CEO and its supporters.
The NPR did not want to compete in the market just like everyone else.
Taxpayers are no longer on the hook to pay for a particular style of stilted news reporting and breathing radio commentary – as it should be. Taxpayers should not be on the hook to pay for any news, let alone tell that the bill should be clearly separated from 50 percent. There is no “silenting” NPR. What happened to the New York Post during the 2020 election “Silenting.” It is not what is happening with NPR here. It is not suffering. This is now to work like everyone else, to compete in Bayana for rating and advertiser dollars.
This does not make NPR separate. It makes normal.
But now that we know that NPR Can (and of course always) can work without the help of the government, the real question is: Where do we go for refund?
