sons Owner Matt Ishbia wants more star players to participate in All-Star Weekend events when Phoenix hosts a midseason showcase next year.
To help, Ishbia has offered a $1 million prize to the winners of the 2027 Slam Dunk and 3-Point Contests, with each event donating $1 million to charity.
“Let’s get the best people in,” Ishbia said Wednesday on “The Pat McAfee Show,” where he unveiled the idea. “Let’s make it amazing.”
However, this concept will run into some red tape.
Officials with the NBA league office and players union told ESPN that such an award would not be in line with the existing bonus structure.
Sources said Ishbia did not consult the league office before making the offer. But he’s motivated to find a way to include more stars in the events.
