CINCINNATI — Bengal defensive end trey hendrickson He will likely miss the remainder of the season after undergoing core muscle surgery this weekend, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.
The current All-Pro selection is dealing with an undisclosed issue that has kept him out of the past five games. Earlier in the day, Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Hendrickson was meeting with a specialist to gather more information on the issue that has impacted his season. Sources told Schefter that meeting indicated a procedure would be required if the injury did not repair after rest and rehabilitation.
Sources told Schefter that the surgery is expected to keep Hendrickson out about six weeks, and likely end a season that has not been pleasant for all parties involved.

Hendrickson has not played or practiced since that game. And since then, there has been little clarity on the further status of his injury.
Hendrickson has not been seen at practices during periods open to the media. In recent weeks, Taylor immediately declared Hendrickson questionable to play before the team even began preparing for its upcoming opponent.

Monday’s developments cap a tumultuous calendar year for the star pass rusher and team. When the 2024 season ended in January, he led the NFL with 17.5 sacks and was named to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl. He also earned All-Pro honors, which no Bengals player had received since 2015.
Hendrickson also found himself in a contract dispute with the team as he sought a long-term contract with the club. The lack of one prompted a trade request at the beginning of the offseason. After the trade never came to fruition, he stayed in training camp until he and the team reached an agreement on a raise to $14 million including incentives to bring his potential annual salary to $30 million.
According to OverTheCap.com, his contract will be void five days after the upcoming Super Bowl, which gives the Bengals $6.5 million in dead money against the salary cap for the 2026 season.
