philadelphia eagles towards the corner jair alexander He has decided to step away from football to focus on getting physically and mentally healthy amid his ongoing recovery from offseason knee surgery, a league source confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.
Alexander, 28, informed the Eagles of his decision on Tuesday, a day after their win green Bay Packers On “Monday Night Football”. He did not travel with the team to Green Bay for the game.
The Eagles indicated that Alexander’s stay in Philadelphia was part of the plan they made for his knee and acclimatization to their defensive system.
Alexander was acquired Baltimore Ravens along with a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round selection before the NFL trade deadline last week. The two-time Pro Bowler had right knee surgery in January, appeared in just two games for the Ravens and struggled when he was on the field. However, he told reporters last week that it was the best feeling he had felt all year.
“I feel that when you talk [him] still [being] Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said after the trade, “A young guy, knowing where his health is at now, feeling healthy, feeling good, we felt the risk was worth the reward.”
An All-Pro in 2020 and 2022, Alexander played the first seven seasons of his career for the Packers before they released him in June.
