Smells that deceive the brain: Research reveals how certain aromas are interpreted as taste

The tasteless drink without sugar can be considered sweet – and now researchers know why. A new study by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden published in the Journal of Nature Communications shows that the brain explains some aroma as a taste. The paper title is “flavor and retrogenous sulfur instigates a shared flavor-specific nerve code in human insula.”
