New York-Shakur Stevenson (24–0, 11 KO) promised to catch his ground and give an exciting performance. The only thing he was not able to do against William Zepeda (33–1, 27 KO) was a knockout, but the WBC Lightweight Champion put a boxing clinic together to maintain his title with a unanimous decision at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens.
Two score cards supported Stewenson 118–110 and a judge made it 119–109.
“He came in, pushed me,” Stevenson said about Zepeda. “He pushed me to another level.”
Turkish Alshikh converted Stevenson into a co-intended program and demanded that he would not be “Tom and Jerry Fights” for any incident when he proceeded. Stevenson listened to people and reminded that Jerry made a cat setting and making a cat paying for his mistakes and regularly out in cartoons.
Stevenson organized his land during the twelve round affair, allowing Zepeda to unload a high volume of punches and capture most of them on weapons and shoulders. But instead of going away, Stevenson used a jab for the body, uppercase and beautiful combinations that Zepaeda suffered. Zepeda managed to launch a difficult right hand in the third that appeared to rock Stevenson, but out of it, there was nothing to notice that harassed the champion.
“Once again, I had to stay away from ropes, pick up my punches and make sure I won,” Stevenson said. “Zepeda is a difficult boy. I have punished him a lot on him tonight, and I want to thank Y’All just for the occasion.”
Zepeda was unspent and tireless with her punch output, which allowed Stevenson to counter and punch a lot of windows. From the middle to late round, Zepeda slowed down enough to Stevenson, so that action could be initiated with hooks in the head and body. Although Zepeda was never badly hurt, she was severely dropped from the exceptional accurate product of Newark, New Jersey.
Stevenson’s performance proved that it is undoubtedly the main event material and can be extremely exciting when necessary. He found it necessary to prove a point tonight and did it in the same way that a man was with unilateral drubing, which was thought to challenge him.
