Senegal’s AFCON final win overturned as Morocco declared winners

The Confederation of African Football said its appeals board ruled that Senegal was “declared deprived of the final” and that its 1–0 win in extra time became a default 3–0 win for host nation Morocco.

In the final in Rabat on 18 January, Senegal’s players left the field in protest during 15 minutes of stoppage time and fans tried to storm the field when Morocco was awarded a penalty.

At the initial disciplinary hearing, CAF imposed fines and sanctions of more than $1 million on Senegal and Morocco’s players and officials but left the results unchanged.

The case may go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland for further appeal.
