Russia launches massive airstrike on Ukraine, setting fire to government building

Russia launched its biggest aerial attack on Ukraine since the onset of the war on Sunday, set fire to a government building in Kiev and killed at least two people.

Russia launched 810 Shahd-type strike unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones; 9 Iskander-K cruise missiles; And according to the Ukrainian Defense Department, 4 Iskander-M ballistic missiles.

According to the announcement, Ukraine succeeded in shooting 747 UAVs and 4 cruise missiles.

The statement said, “Thanks to Ukrainian aerial guards for your work! Ukraine needs more air defense systems to protect our people from such barbaric attacks.”

Ukrainian Defense Minister Dennis Shamil confirmed that the attack was the largest since the war began. He did not specify the number of deaths or the number of injured, but said that a child was among those who died.

Pictures released from the attack showed part of a government building on the fire. Associated press reporters at the scene stated that it was not clear that the smoke was the result of a straight hit or debris. Russia has so far avoided any direct attack on government buildings at the center of Kiev.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Severanco said at least two people were killed and dozens were injured in the attack.

“For the first time, the Ukrainian government’s building faced direct loss – its roof and upper floors hit the enemy’s attack. The firefighting explosion is extinguished, and I thank them for their courage and dedication,” Searidenco said in his statement.

“We will rebuild what we have been destroyed,” he continued. “But lost life cannot be restored. Russia continues to terrorize and kill our people every day.”

Svyrydenko urged the public that “the response to this terror is not only with words, but with decisive action.”

“The pressure of restrictions must be intensified, at the top against dandruff oil and gas. New sanctions are required that will strike in the Kremlin military machine. And most importantly, Ukraine requires arms. Only strength can stop terror and Russia can stop Russia from killing Ukrainians every day,” he wrote.

The attack comes when President Trump has sought to end the war in Ukraine, and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelanski said that he is ready to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has progressed in recent weeks.
