Rivian is reportedly cutting another 600 employees in its third layoff of the year, or about 4% of its total workforce, according to wall street journal,
The company had previously cut about 100 to 150 employees in its commercial and manufacturing teams in September and June, respectively. Rivian declined to comment on which teams would be affected by this new round of layoffs.
The cut comes as Rivian prepares to launch its all-important mass-market model, the R2 SUV, in 2026. The company plans to build more than 150,000 EVs per year at its factory in Normal, Illinois. Rivian recently broke ground on a brand new factory outside Atlanta, where it plans to build more R2s and other variants.
However, until the R2 hits the road, Rivian is struggling to maintain sales momentum with its current lineup. This is the current best case estimate For total delivery figures at the end of 2025 That would represent a 16% decline from last year’s sales.
