RFK Jr. to unveil new guidance encouraging more saturated fats

,newsnation) – We dietary Guidelines “Another change may soon occur under the Trump administration.”make america healthy again“The initiative, and the proposal, have already been criticized.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is set to unveil new guidance to encourage consumption of more foods, including foods previously considered unhealthy high in saturated fat,

Kennedy has argued that Americans need more trans and saturated fats, not less, saying that foods like butter, cheese, milk and red meat have been unfairly stigmatized for decades. Updated guidance may be issued as soon as this month.

“New dietary guidelines that are common sense, that emphasize the need to eat saturated fat, dairy, good meat, fresh meat and vegetables … when we release them, it will give everyone justification to run it in our schools,” Kennedy said.

Experts argue more saturated fat will make Americans less healthy

Kennedy has long argued that refined carbohydrates and ultraprocessed foods are the main culprits of unhealthy diets and that they have been largely ignored in the conversation around obesity and inflammation.

Currently, the US Dietary Guidelines, which are updated every five years, suggest that Americans limit saturated fat to 10 percent of their daily calorie intake. However, the American Heart Association recommends keeping that intake below 6 percent,

Kennedy’s change from decades-old consensus has already raised concern among some medical professionals, who argue that the science is clear: More saturated fat will make Americans less healthy.

“We consume too much sugar, we consume too much saturated fat,” said Eve Studi, director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Division of Nutrition Guidance and Analysis. “We have a huge nutrition problem, and I think it requires action on multiple fronts.”

The American Heart Association warns that saturated fat increases levels of so-called “bad” cholesterol and is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, the leading cause of death in the US.
