Businessman and political outsider Jason Dickerson (R) won an open Georgia state Senate seat on Tuesday to have been elected by President Trump to become an American treasurer by President Trump after the rest of Sen Brandon Beach’s (R) term.
Dickerson defeated Attorney and Businesswoman Debra Shigle (D) to represent Georgia State Senate District 21, including parts of Fulton and Cherokee counties. The beach had previously represented the region, but resigned from the US Senate, when he was taped to be an American treasurer.
During the August general election, Shigle secured first place near 40 percent of the support, while Dickerson received more than 17 percent among the crowds of five other candidates.
Both were forced into a runoff as a candidate did not win at least half of the votes.
While the seat was likely to live within the Republican hands – Beach won its last election with 70 percent of the votes – Democrats expected to make it competitive over a year, where the party has gone to a large extent in the state’s legislative and special Congress elections.
Even joined the national party, Kane Martin, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, carried out the weekend in Alphetta.
This did not stop the Democrats from rally around the shigley despite its losses.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) President Heather Williams said in a statement, “State Democrats like Deb Shigle are advocating their communities, and they are giving a big boost in voter support, even in the long -held GOP seats,” the Chairman of the Democratic Legislative Campane Committee (DLCC) said in a statement.
“DLCC will continue to support the Democrats running strong campaigns across the country.”
