Phoenix– Los Angeles Rams Coach Sean McVay admits the team explored the possibility of trading the wide receiver davante adams But it was ultimately decided that it was not best for the team.
“If we felt it was best for our team, we would have done it,” McVay said in league meetings Monday. “But we didn’t think it was best for our team.”
Adams, who signed a two-year contract with the Rams through March 2024, led the league in receiving touchdowns last season despite missing three games.
McVay said reports that the Rams had explored a trade for Adams were accurate, but added, “We have discussions all the time.”
“We really talked about some different ways to incorporate other players and how that might impact DeVante,” McVay said.
McVay said he has spoken to Adams about potential trade conversations and said he believes the receiver understands why they happened.
“There’s a lot of things out there that aren’t accurate, but when there’s at least some accuracy or some thought to it, you want to deal with it in a straightforward, honest and open manner,” McVay said. “And there are instances where I wasn’t as good as in previous years, and so I don’t want to make the same mistakes.
“And he’s a grown man, and I think he understands that it’s a part of this business, but I think he also understands that at the end of the day, you’re a Ram because that’s what’s best and I’m excited to move forward with him.”
In his press conference at league meetings, McVay also addressed Case filed against receiver puka nakuaHe said the team is aware of the incident as it happened on New Year’s Eve. Last week, a woman in Los Angeles filed a civil lawsuit against Nakuya alleging he made “unprovoked anti-Semitic statements” and later bit her on the shoulder.
McVay said the Rams are “continuing to gather all the information.”
“But man, you guys know, I trust this kid’s heart,” McVay said. “Love him, put your arm around him, want to continue to help him grow and really want to get all the proper facts before making a decision on that particular situation.”
Nacua, a fifth-round pick in 2023, is now eligible for a contract extension. last week, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jackson Smith-Njigba Agreed to an extension that made him the highest-paid receiver in NFL history.
As for what the Rams have discussed with Nacua, McVay said the receiver understands the responsibility he has to represent the organization. In December, Nakua released a a statement apologizing for a display of emotion On an Internet livestream that was “anti-Semitic in nature and perpetuated harmful stereotypes against the Jewish people.”
“The play on the field is amazing,” McVay said. “And then there’s a responsibility in terms of representing all the things that the play has directed and determined, not just him. He knows that. These are the expectations and we hope it’s something that it’s an opportunity for him to learn and grow.
“And we hope he’s a Ram for a really long time, but he understands what the responsibility is, not just limited to production on the field.”
