Postal deliveries from world to US drop 80 percent after Trump’s de minimis lift

A United Nations body has found that President Trump removed the exception “de minimis”, as a United Nations body has found that after allowing small packages below $ 800, the world’s post delivery has fallen by 80 percent.

The Universal Postal Union (UPU), an UN agency, which works on global postal cooperation, said that postal traffic had reduced by 80 percent in the US since August 29, when the rule came into force.

The group said it would work to get more package to go to the United States by developing a technical solution that can help ensure that the necessary duties are collected. One reason for the heavy fall in traffic is that duties on low-valuable packages were to be collected by new parties. The air carriers did not want to bear responsibility, said the UPU, and there were no new links for post operators in other countries.

“Eupuo has the responsibility of guaranteeing free circulation of postal items on the same postal area in its mission,” said the Director General of UPU, Mashiko Metoki.
The group said that starting from 5 September, the postal operator would be able to reach a landed-cost calculator through an application programming interface, which can be plugged into their retail and counter solutions. It said that it would allow postal operators to calculate and collect the required duties from customers at the original.
UPU said that it was informed by 88 separate postal operators that they had suspended something or all postal services in the US until a solution was implemented, highlighting the large -scale impact of Trump’s D Minimis Order.

It said that its solution would be integrated into its customs declaration system platform, stating that it would gradually allow 176 postal operators to use the platform to avail the solution.

Even before the Deymis rule was taken out in August, Trump ended it for China.

It left discount retailers like Shin and Temu Scuffle Their distribution models. He also increased his prices for people sending low -cost packages.
