Local police say they have charged an Illinois driver who struck a pedestrian while she was livestreaming on TikTok.
New York Times report Tynesha McCarty-Rotten, who posts on TikTok under the name Tee Time, has been charged by the Zion Police Department with two felonies – negligent homicide and aggravated use of a communication device resulting in death.
In a video that has been re-shared by other accounts on TikTok, the woman posting as Tee Tyme can reportedly be seen talking on her phone when the loud bang occurred. An offscreen child asks, “What was that?” The woman then replies, “I hit someone.”
Surveillance video allegedly shows McCarty-Roughton’s vehicle entering the intersection while the traffic light was still red, with investigators determining that she did not slow down or swerve before striking Darren Lucas, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
McCarty-Rotten’s attorney told the NYT that the evidence would show that “what happened was an accident, a negligent act, but not an intentional or reckless act.”
