Podcast host Jennifer Welch pressed Senator Cory Booker (D-N.Y.) over a photo with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying it was “heartbreaking” to see.
“I think the Democratic base feels like there’s a disconnect,” the liberal podcaster said in an interview on the “I’ve Had It” podcast released Tuesday. “Like, we listen to you, like when you did your 25-hour speech, I said ‘Go Corey, I love it. It’s amazing.'”
“And then, you have a photo shoot with Benjamin Netanyahu, and I was just like, ‘Really what? Like, how could he do that?’ It was heartbreaking. I felt cheated.”
Booker later said that he “has real problems with Benjamin Netanyahu,” calling his actions “disgraceful.”
“I’m not going to run out of the room screaming, I want to look her in the eyes, like I do, Amy Klobuchar and so many others, and talk to her about humanitarian aid,” Booker said, referring to his Senate colleague from Minnesota.
“And if people want to criticize me for that, go ahead. But I’m leading right now in the Senate on the West Bank crisis, on efforts to take it over or illegal settlements. I’m leading legislation to sanction people who are doing that.”
