Tallahassee, Florida — Mason Hentschel Throwed for 321 yards and connected desmond reed Pittsburgh handed No. 25 Florida State its third consecutive conference loss on Saturday on a pair of touchdown passes.
A true freshman, Hentschel completed 21 of 29 passes and had a pair of interceptions in the second quarter in the 34–31 victory. He has surpassed 300 passing yards in both of his starts, which came last week in the Seminoles’ road loss at Boston College.
“He’s a football player and he hasn’t lost any confidence,” Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi said. “That’s the difference. He fought and didn’t care.” [about the interceptions],
Reed had eight catches for 155 yards and 10 catches for 38 yards for Pittsburgh (4-2, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).
According to ESPN Research, the Panthers closed as an 11.5-point underdog before the game, making the win their biggest upset since defeating No. 2 Miami as a 12-point underdog in 2017.
After a promising start to the season, Florida State (3-3, 0-3) is on a decline after losses to Virginia, Miami and now Pittsburgh. Mike Norvell’s team has failed to defeat an ACC opponent since a win over California more than a year ago.
FSU coach Mike Norvell appeared disappointed immediately after the game and accepted responsibility for the loss, saying his team needed to cut down on its mistakes.
“You sit there and you talk about accountability, you talk about work, you talk about emphasis … but we have to do it during the game,” he said in the postgame press conference. “And we’re not doing that consistently enough.”

The Panthers finished with two field goals. Zakarian TurnerA 3-yard touchdown run capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive with 2:28 remaining.
