Ovechkin scored his 33rd career hat trick to pass Brett Hull for fourth in NHL history and also added an assist, moving him past Joe Sakic for 10th on the points list.
Ovechkin has scored 10 goals in 21 games this season, bringing his NHL-record total to 907. The 40-year-old Russian has 1,643 points, two more than Sakic.
“I just try to do my job and try to enjoy the moment and enjoy the time,” Ovechkin said.

Following Wednesday night’s 7-4 home win over Edmonton, Washington has won three in a row to improve to 11-8-2. This was the Capitals’ only road game in the eight-game span.
Montreal has lost five in a row and seven of eight.
