Orbán slams 'rigged' Biden administration in meeting with Trump

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban criticized the Biden administration in his opening remarks at the start of his bilateral meeting with President Trump on Friday.

“We are here to open a new chapter in the bilateral relationship between the United States and Hungary, where basically everything was rigged during the Democrat administration,” Orban, sitting next to Trump, said.

He added, “Basically everything was broken, ruined, canceled. The previous administration had done a lot of damage.” He further said that Trump has “restored” relations between the two countries.

He said, “You have improved bilateral relations. You have fixed the wrong things that the previous government did, so now we are in a very good position to open a new chapter. Let’s say a golden age between the United States and Hungary.”

The criticism of the Biden administration and flattery of Trump comes as Orbán has asked Trump to grant Hungary a waiver to continue importing Russian oil, which is not subject to US sanctions.

Orbán and Trump are both conservative allies. The president particularly supported Orbán ahead of the country’s parliamentary elections in April. However, Orbán’s first visit comes 10 months into the second Trump administration, indicating that many have despised the Hungarian leader.
