Obama praises Mamdani's 'impressive' NYC bid in call: Reports

Former President Obama praised the victory of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani (D) in a recent call. According to several reports,

Obama told Mamdani he was interested in the New York Assembly member’s advancement in Tuesday’s general election, the Times reported.

“Your campaign has been impressive to watch,” Obama told Mamdani during the call, Times sources told the newspaper.

In a statement obtained by the Times, Mamdani spokeswoman Dora Pekek said that “Zohran Mamdani appreciated President Obama’s words of support and his conversation on the importance of bringing a new kind of politics to our city.”

Mamdani, a democratic socialist, shocked the political world a few months ago by winning the Democratic primary for Big Apple mayor over former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D). Cuomo is now contesting as an independent candidate for the post of mayor.

The New York Assembly member’s star has risen dramatically in recent months, with many talking about Mamdani’s campaign as a blueprint for future elections for Democrats across the country.

Mamdani’s post also featured a large red graphic that read “TRUMP ENDORSED CUOMO” in white text, with the president and the former governor depicted right next to each other below.
