Lucid Motors recalls over 4,000 Gravity SUVs citing improperly welded seat belts

Lucid Motors seems to have largely resolved its initial quality struggles with the Gravity SUV’s hardware and software, but the company is still not out of the woods: It has recalled more than 4,000 Gravity SUVs after a seat belt problem was discovered.

The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that, during unrelated safety testing in January, it found that some of the SUV’s second-row seat belt anchors were not properly welded. This increases the risk that seat belts will not be able to hold the passengers in place during a collision.

Lucid Motors said the problem is the result of its seat supplier changing its manufacturing process “without notice or approval to Lucid.” The supplier has reverted to Lucid Motors’ original design specifications, and only Gravity SUVs built before February 14, 2026 are affected.

The automaker says it will have to inspect all Gravity SUVs affected by the recall, and install either a bracket or a complete new seat depending on the quality of the welds.
