San Francisco — Golden State Warriors Center kristaps porzingis Will miss his fourth consecutive game on Saturday night against Los Angeles Lakers Which the team is listing as a common disease.
“I can’t really say anything else on it,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “This is a medical matter that is beyond my ability to clarify anything. He is ill. He will not play. We will continue to monitor him.”
This comes a day after Kerr went on local Bay Area radio and said that Porzingis is not actually dealing with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), despite Porzingis publicly detailing his battle with it last year.
Warriors acquire Porzingis from Atlanta at February trade deadline Jonathan Kuminga.
“I read about the POTS diagnosis and called the Hawks [general manager] Onsie Saleh,” Kerr said. “He’s a good friend of mine and I said ‘Is this Potts story real?’ He said it’s not really Potts. That was some of the misinformation that was out there.”
When Kerr was asked to clarify, he followed through on that hypothesis and assessment Saturday.
“It was a stupid mistake of mine to talk about something I’m not qualified to talk about,” Kerr said. “Even trying to discuss the diagnosis was a mistake. I have to leave it to the professionals.”
Porzingis first dealt with a lengthy illness in his final season boston celticsIt was later revealed that Boston doctors had diagnosed POTS as the cause. He was limited to 17 games this season in Atlanta, partly due to illness.
Porzingis has appeared in only one of his first eight games with the Warriors. Kerr said his status for Monday’s game against the Clippers is still to be determined.
