San Francisco — boston celtics Ahead jaylen brown Beverly Hills is considering legal action against the city, he told ESPN’s Endscape, after police shut down a private event held Saturday during NBA All-Star Weekend.
Brown told Endscape that he was embarrassed and angry after Beverly Hills Police shut down his event around 7 p.m. Saturday without any discussion with him or the homeowner. Brown previously said that shutting down the program based on a belief that officers could not enter the home “raises serious procedural concerns” and caused “significant financial and reputational harm.”
“I’m not one to chase legalities, but you’ve embarrassed my brand and my team. And I think that’s inappropriate,” Brown told Endscape. “And I feel hurt by the fact that you continued to lie in your apology. I will be back with my team this weekend and we will take a decision.”
He added, “It’s hard to say that you weren’t being targeted.”

The city of Beverly Hills apologized to Brown on Thursday and said previous statements by police about shutting down the event were inaccurate. Brown has continued to take issue with the city’s actions, which he said were “based on biased information.”

Brown said this was “completely false” because the event, held to promote Brown’s Oakley performance brand, 741Performance, was a private, invitation-only gathering and not a commercial or public event that would require a permit.
Beverly Hills officials said, “After further internal review, the city has determined that its prior public communications contained inaccurate information.” wrote in a statement Thursday on Instagram. “Notably, no permit application for the event was submitted nor denied and there are no prior related violations in the residence’s records. The City takes full responsibility for the internal error that resulted in the inaccurate statement being distributed and is working to ensure this does not happen again.”
Beverly Hills City Manager Nancy Hunt-Coffey also apologized to Brown and the Jannard family, but added that city staff “found circumstances that are considered a violation of city code and for that reason alone, the program was terminated.”
Brown described those apologies his ex account Thursday as a “half-hearted apology after the damage is done.”
“I wanted to enjoy myself and I felt like that was taken away,” Brown told reporters after Thursday’s game, in which he had a triple-double. “I was embarrassed. If it happened to me, I’m sure it happened to many people in the past. I look at it that way. There’s probably a group of people who don’t scream, preying on deaf fear, which is unfortunate. I’m not sure what the conclusion is. … Even the statement he made, he included some things in the apology that were not true.
“So I don’t think an apology is acceptable. I lost a lot of money.” [with our] Partners, etcetera. People were creating the impression that we did not follow proper protocols. So, I have a bad taste in my mouth all around. I am extremely hurt. My team is angry. I’m not sure what the conclusion will be. “All I know is that these are some bulls—.”
Off the court, Brown has a reputation as a socially conscious intellectual, having lectured at MIT and Harvard.
On Saturday, a panel discussion with National Basketball Players Association president Andre Iguodala was about to begin when police abruptly ended the event. Rap star Larcelle previously spoke on the panel. An after-party was also planned to host 200 guests.

“This event was to talk about the culture of the future, the leadership of the future, how the industry is working together,” Brown told Endscape. “Change doesn’t come from one unit. It comes from everyone working together. I had leaders from different sectors all talking about [what] “This is what the next generation can and should look like.”
Asked if he thought the shutdown was racially motivated, Brown told Endscape: “I don’t know if it was my thing or not. I don’t know if it was a demographic thing. I can’t speak for them. I just know this: We were targeted. People can guess the rest.”
Brown was non-committal about meeting with Beverly Hills officials when the Celtics returned to Los Angeles to play lakers On Sunday.
“What’s being said? It’s already over,” he told Endscape. “Can’t get that moment back. Brand activation. All-Star Weekend. Can’t get that back.”
“All those guys won’t be there again. Plus, All-Star Weekend is over. It’s like, what can you say?”
