Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced a plan to withdraw the Arlington Confederate Memorial, otherwise known as The Recenstion Memorial, which is in the Confederate part of the Arlington National Cemetery. It attracted a rebuke from the retired Army General Ty Sedule, former vice -president of the Naming Commission, the Congress, which was created to review the Confederate iconography within the Defense Department.
“By ordering the memorial,” Sedule Recently written in the hill “Hegseth is fulfilling the wishes of the Congress and the American people.”
They are the bold words of the general, who describe themselves as a student of “Confederate Smallotsav”. Well, I am a confederate soldier. My great -grandfather’s family consisted of five confederate caveramen and an infantrymain. I am an American person and I appreciate Hegseth’s action.
Naming Commission members are misleading American people, pretending that they had a popular mandate to work that never existed.
To tell them that to tell them – something that publicly speaks is that – the Congress completely supports their work. But the commission was not created by public praise or popular law. Instead, it was a vague proposal, deep burial within the National Defense Authority Act of FY 2021 – Behemth Bill authorizing all American military operations.
On 7 February 2024, members of the Commission held a seminar at Hamilton College, New York. One announced that the Congress had given huge support to the commission’s work. ,Voting to override“President Trump Lame-dak veto Among that bill, “bipartisan supermbitors of 81 senators and 322 representatives announced that it was time to try to end the Confederate Memorial. Two years later, in 2022, in 2022, with the same number of midtarm elections, about the same number, if the report of the naming commission was not welcomed much,” did not support your recommendations and did not support the defense department, ” The Defense Department was greenery. ,
The final report of the commission announces: “2021 William M. ‘Mac’ in passing the Mac ‘Thornberry National Defense Authority Act, the United States Congress determined that Confederates and Confedersi no longer do warrant memory through the Defense Department.” But if the Congress enthusiastically supports the recommendations of the Commission, its decisions and the broad opinion of its mandate, it ensures that it is a strange way to show it.
In fact, the Naming Commission had already been dissolved already, before the average people also realized what he was doing – that its recommendations went beyond changing the names of some army bases. By the beginning of January 2023, the email address for its press point-off-contact had died, and the Commission’s website had already disappeared by April.
The only commissioner who was a sitting member of the Congress and a former Confederate state’s only representative-rap. Austin Scott (R-Ga.)-refused to answer questions about the commission’s functions. His employees told me that the Commission had asked the members not to comment publicly on their work.
Thousands of letters and emails, hundreds of Congress members and employees, have become unanswered for clarification of the commission’s works (and Congress monitoring). In fact, it is almost impossible to find any Congress member who wants to talk publicly about the matter. If this was the specific intention of the Congress in passing this very large defense package, then why did Capital Hill not leave this routine bipartisan success?
In 1914, many union veterans were unhappy as a reconciliation memorial. This will help the nation to keep war trauma behind it and build a new united nation.
For the allegation that the memorial “clearly recalls the Confederi and its objectives – chattail slavery,” I will quote the comments prepared at the dedication ceremony. Washington GarnerProminent Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic – the major organization for the Union Civil War Veterans.
“This monument structure speaks the language of peace and good desire,” he said. “It seems appropriate that here at this place and on these grounds, once Robert E. Lee’s house, some brave men who have followed the great soldier who have followed the great soldier. It is also fit here. It is also fit in the vision of the nation’s capital, and in this huge bury conspiracy, American Valore has been included in a once-hiran, which makes a comfortable to comfort. ,
A hundred years ago, veterans from the opposition parties of our country’s most divisive and painful war found a way to compromise, harmonize and move forward.
Two years ago, the agents of the Congress determined that it was not only necessary, but to undo a “wishes of American people” – to remove a statue from a remote part of a cemetery. Our enemies can explain that as an indication that we are becoming emotional and culturally brittle people – as Osama bin Laden once kept it, “a weak horse.”
Weak horses invite attacks by predators. On the other hand, a strong and confident nation shows that it can handle the complications of its history and does not feel forced to do justice to the people of the past based on the current sensations. Hegseth’s decision to restore the reconciliation monument for Arlington is a sign that weakened horses and “Vok Lamings” are no longer in charge in Washington.
