I first met James Comi in 1990, when he was the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division in the southern district of New York and was assigned to the FBI’s New York office. At that time, he led a hard-beaching team of prosecutors and was considered equally well by both the line lawyers and agents.
It was then. Today, no person has done more than Comi to destroy the FBI’s legacy, reputation, and the most harmful of all – its most harmful – its credibility with American people. Like many of my fellow agents of that generation, I am deeply disappointed – and clearly angry – to see the outfit that I believed in falling into humiliation from within.
On 25 September, a federal grand jury handed over one Two-tail prosecution Charging former FBI Director Comi with Perjri and obstruction. Nevertheless, the incidents leading to this prosecution are very rare to inspire confidence in a successful Comi prosecution.
The firing by US Attorney President Trump in the eastern district of Virginia told his frustration that the Attorney General of New York State Lateitia James, Komi, and others were understood to have a lack of adequate evidence by career prosecutors to support criminal allegations.
Trump’s hand replacement is one Insurance defense lawyer with zero prosecution experience – An appointment that recurs political vengeance over efficiency. It follows the President’s social media posting Attorney General Palm Bondi Trump’s political opponents not to follow to prosecute.
The list of Comi’s offenses as the director of the FBI is long – and many departments of justice are documented in the Inspector General of Justice of Justice.
In July 2016, the Attorney General’s authority was instigated, James Comi announced unilaterally No fee will be filed Against Hillary Clinton for the use of a private email server to operate the official government business.
At the same time, he grabbed lectures – in fact, was gazelight – American people announced that “” said that “”No proper prosecutor“Such a case would bring, even when he admitted that Hillary was” extremely careless “to deal with the classified email of Clinton. After doing so, he violated the justice protocol by expanding unwanted conducts, distributing the highly important account of Clinton’s non -reservations.
Inspector General of Justice Department criticized Komi for compulsorily theft Internal FBI memo His conversation with Trump after his firing. He then provided information to a friend with the intention that it should be leaked to the New York Times.
The Inspector General determined it to be “unauthorized disclosure of sensitive investigative information” and specifically slammed it as an arrogant use of the official FBI record for the appointment of a particular lawyer.
During a Senate Judiciary Committee, Comi’s testimony to the May 2017 testimony shows the Periery Charge Stem, in which he refused to authorize anyone in the FBI to be an anonymous source to leak information to the media about the FBI investigation into Trump and Clinton. Nevertheless, according to the Inspector General Report of the Department of Justice of 2018, Deputy Director, Andrew McCabe said that Comi had actually authorized them (McKebe) to leak the information to the press. However, the Inspector General Report also concluded that McKebe made several false or misleading statements.
Further Inspector General conclusion points to systemic weaknesses under the leadership of Comi, “paying attention”Serious errors and lapses“Foreign intelligence monitoring act warrant applications during Russia’s investigation – especially the failure to include laps and key information in the oversight.
After being dismissed, Comi tried to remain relevant by burning his image as an enlightened moral right for his loyal followers, or, to the rest of us, confirm that their bloated ego and deep sitting narrowing- Comi wrote a book On all things, moral leadership. I read it and became nausea. He can do eloquent wax about moral leadership, but he neither incarnates nor practices it.
The day of Comi in the court will not be so tested as a national spectacle. He will be provoked by his legend of his acolites, which will elevate him as a virtuous martyr-while the rest will see him what he is-a self-serving ego. The event will serve as another watershed moment and further confirm how we are divided as a country.
Any government official-James Comi, former CIA director John Brainon, Sen Adam Shif (D-Calif), or any other co-co-office should be held fully accountable for his tasks in the office. If the possible reason is that federal laws were violated, the FBI duty is to examine aggressively, collect evidence, and present the facts to an American lawyer. The prosecutors should then take a charging decision on the basis of politics or personality, but whether an objective of evidence can maintain a punishment. Anything is a betrayal of equal justice under low law.
In addition, the FBI Director, officials of the Department of Justice, and yes, the President should avoid making any public remarks – especially on social media – a pending investigation or prosecution. Any President or administration should never compromise or reduce the freedom of the Department of Justice by demanding prosecution of specific persons. The American judicial process should be allowed to play as founders – completely independent from political effects.
If the FBI and the Department of Justice have to regain public confidence and credibility, they should allow their actions to speak for themselves – the prosecutions, arguments and punishment were publicly filed in the court. No bold statement about transparency or accountability. Stay behind the curtain, not in front of the camera. Do not do overpromise and underdalliver. And, for heaven, stay away from social media.
