The Oscar Piastry achieved the position for Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix after the fastest beating its McLaren team partner and title opponent in qualifying at 0.012 seconds.
Noris looked like a favorite for pole in free practice, but Piastry found the smallest margin on her team partner when it matured in Q3.
Both drivers failed to improve their second run in Q3 as their better McLaren allowed them to engage in a private battle in the upper line of the grid.
Piastry currently leads the Noris in nine digits in the standing of drivers, with an opportunity to expand the margin in the Sunday race.
The ruling champion Max Vestapen finished third on the grid in front of his house crowd and managed to pull his red bull within 0.263 seconds of the fastest lap in the piastry.
