Dominik Szoboszlai: Liverpool lacked ‘fighting spirit’ in Man City loss

Dominic Szoboszlai Said liverpool They lacked “fighting spirit” defeated 4-0 Manchester City in the FA Cup and said it was “hard to find words” to explain his team’s poor performance.

Arne Slott’s side started well at the Etihad but conceded four goals in a space of 20 minutes either side of half-time. It is not the first time this season that the Reds have succumbed to adversity, having won only two of the 19 matches in which they have fallen behind.

“When you do something and it doesn’t produce any results, it means nothing,” Szoboszlai told TNT Sports.

“We had chances and we missed them; we conceded easy penalties. We lost 4-0. We can’t concede enough. There’s nothing else to say.”

“It’s hard to win here. Even after being 1-0 down you still believe. When you’re 2-0 down, conceding another goal in the last minute of half-time is our own fault. At 2-0 the chances are getting smaller and smaller. You come out and want to show that we are capable of coming back and you concede a third goal, from then on there is no chance of coming back.

“The fighting spirit wasn’t enough, the mentality wasn’t enough. To be honest, none of us were there. It’s a tough time but we have to stay united. Wednesday is another chance but we have to get it in our minds that this is not the season we want to end with.”

Asked why Liverpool lacked the fight needed to challenge City, Szoboszlai said: “That’s a good question. I don’t know. It’s hard to find words, to be honest. We wanted it so much. You lose 4-0 at City and that’s not the best.

“We have to forget as much as we can and as quickly as we can and keep fighting all the time. I always say when we do that and we are winning, when we don’t do that we are losing. You have to fight, work hard, be there for each other and that’s what we miss sometimes.”
