Newark, NJ – American Olympic Hero jack hughes awarded by New Jersey Devils before their game on Wednesday night against buffalo saber NHL play resumed after a three-week break.
The Devils showed video of Hughes’ overtime goal in the United States’ 2-1 victory over Canada in the gold medal game on Sunday in Milan. The 24-year-old center lost some teeth in the third period of that game when he was hit by a high stick Sam Bennett.
Hughes told the crowd, “I am very proud and pleased that the men’s and women’s hockey teams brought gold medals back to the United States.” “And I’m very proud to represent the New Jersey Devils organization and represent the great state of New Jersey.”
Hughes was not on the skate Wednesday morning. He arrived in New Jersey late Tuesday after being recognized by President Donald Trump along with his American colleagues at the State of the Union address.
Hughes had an assist at the Devils lost 2-1 To the sabers.
Earlier in the week, a popular deli near the Prudential Center named a sandwich after Hughes. The sandwich is advertised as “so tender, you don’t need teeth”.
