Depression may harm young people's physical health long before any obvious signs appear

A groundbreaking new study tracking nearly 2,000 young Australians for a decade has challenged long-held beliefs about depression and physical health, finding that sleep disruption was a stronger predictor of later insulin resistance than weight gain. Research from the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Center found that while weight gain is not the main cause, depression is linked to later insulin resistance, an early marker of diabetes and heart disease.
