The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC), which seeks to elect Democrats to state legislatures, announced Tuesday it is making a new six-figure investment in New Jersey Assembly races before next month, according to plans first shared with The Hill.
DLCC made an initial five-figure investment in those races in August, and the group is endorsing a dozen candidates running in different districts. DLCC declined to provide a specific number regarding its latest investment.
“In the final weeks of the campaign, the DLCC has been combing through and investing in tapes to protect our strongest Democratic incumbents and flip some of the GOP’s most vulnerable districts in the New Jersey Assembly,” DLCC President Heather Williams said in a statement.
He added, “New Jersey Republicans have refused to acknowledge or stand up to Trump’s failed economic agenda, which is hurting the people of their state.” “We are proud to support New Jersey Democrats who are stepping up to protect their communities.”
Democrats hold a 52-28 lead in the Assembly, meaning the party is unlikely to lose its majority. However, several legislative districts will be closely watched, especially places like the 3rd District, which spans Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland counties, and the 8th District in Atlantic and Burlington counties.
Also on the New Jersey ballot next month is the gubernatorial race between Rep. Mickey Sherrill (D-N.J.) and former GOP Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli.
