“It is with great sadness that the Dallas Cowboys announce that Marshon Neeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshon was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers for Marshon are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family,” the team said in a statement.
He was 24 years old.
The team did not provide any details about how Kneeland died.
Kneeland’s agent, Jonathan Purzley, described Kneeland’s death as “a pain I can’t put into words”.
“I am heartbroken to confirm that my client and dearest friend Marshon Kneeland passed away last night,” Purzley said in a statement. “I watched him fight from a hopeful kid in Western Michigan with dreams of becoming a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys. Marshon put his heart into every snap, every practice and every moment on the field. Losing someone with his talent, spirit and goodness is a pain I can hardly explain in words.
“My heart goes out to his family, his teammates and everyone who loved him, and I hope they feel the support of the entire football community during this unimaginable time. I ask that you please give his loved ones privacy and compassion as they mourn this tremendous loss.”
