College football’s transfer portal officially opens at midnight ET on January 2. However, players have been announcing their intentions to transfer since the season ended.
Once the portal opens, players will have until January 16 to register their names for transfers. This does not mean that they have to find their new school by then – or that they cannot return to their previous schools.
