Las Vegas – Turmoil las vegas raiders Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly was fired on Sunday night, just 11 games into his first season with the organization.
Kelly’s firing follows a lost 24-10 till cleveland browns On Sunday that dropped the Raiders to 2-9 this season.
First-year coach Pete Carroll said, “I spoke to Chip Kelly this evening and informed him of his release as the Raiders’ offensive coordinator.” said in a statement Released by the team. “I want to thank Chip for his service and wish him all the best for the future.”
Carroll did not name the new coordinator.
Las Vegas ranks last in the NFL in points per game (15.0), 30th in total yards per game (268.9), 31st in rushing per game (79.5 yards), 30th in offensive EPA (minus-77.8) and 28th in red zone efficiency (48.1%). The Raiders have scored fewer than 10 points in four games – the most in the NFL.
Kelly told NFL reporter Jay Glazer, “I’m grateful for the opportunity with the Raiders; the last thing in this league is you have to win.” “I really love those players. I’m huge, Huge geno smith fan. Working with Geno and those guys every day was the best part of this experience for me.
“But hey, we have to win. I get it.”
This is the second change to Carroll’s staff this season. attacker Special teams coordinator Tom McMahon was fired On 7th November.
When Carroll was asked about his relationship with Kelly on November 13, the coach said, “Chip has a world of experience that I’ve been able to rely on.
“We’re always working together to move forward and be representative. … So, we’re trying to get it right.”
Kelly joined the Raiders’ coaching staff after helping Ohio State Win a national title as its offensive coordinator last season. The 61-year-old coach, who reportedly has an average annual salary of $6 million, aimed to fix the Raiders’ offense, which was one of the worst in the league last season.
That plan failed.
Under Kelly, Smith has had one of his worst seasons as a starter. He has thrown for 2,367 yards, 13 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a completion rate of 66.6%. Smith is 29th in passer rating (82.4) and 32nd in QBR (29.2).
