CDC confirms at least 85 people experienced THC sickness from pizza place in Wisconsin

Initial reports came as emergency medical services in the region, which informs public health madison and Dane County (PhMDC) that seven people were taken to local hospitals for symptoms such as dizziness, sleep and anxiety. Everyone reported food from the same local restaurant.

Seven persons were treated with THC intoxication symptoms at a Stotton Hospital. A person who had eaten pizza from the same place stated that he had a positive thC test result, without any knowledge, indicated an outbreak investigation.

The restaurant immediately closed on 24 October, which confirms PhMDC about the THC seller in the shared kitchen. According to CDC report, the owner of the restaurant confirmed that he ran out of cooking oil on 22 October, used some from the shared kitchen to prepare the dough.

Further investigation revealed that the oil conducted a positive test for THC, as the restaurant used THC-infected oil from the cooperative kitchen to prepare the dough. No criminal allegations were made as the police consider the contamination unknowingly.

The restaurant reopened on 26 October after deep cleaning and hygiene procedures approved by Visconsin Food Code.

The following has been stated in the CDC report, “85 persons responding to the questionnaire of a health department reported symptoms to the THC intoxication that occurred within 5 hours after eating food from a pizza restaurant.”
