“Joe’s a good coach. He really is. We have a really good offensive staff. They have really good games. You’re going to have some games you want back, some play calls you want back,” McDermott said. “That’s how you respond to them and I have full confidence in our offensive staff and Joe as our leader that we will make the necessary adjustments and move us forward.”
McDermott was also asked if he was committed to Brady as his offensive coordinator for the remainder of the season, to which he replied: “Yes.”
The Bills’ disappointing offensive performance came a day earlier New York Giants Coach Brian Daboll was firedwho previously served as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator for the quarterback’s first four years josh allenCareer (2018–21).
When asked Monday about Daboll being fired and whether he would consider reaching out to him, McDermott said, “Yeah, no, I understand why you’re asking. Brian’s a great coach. It’s unfortunate to see this happen to him. At this point, there’s no consideration whatsoever.”
The Bills (6-3) were held scoreless through the first three quarters against Miami, just the third time that has happened since Allen was drafted in 2018. The offense had three turnovers, including an interception and a fumble by Allen.
The Buffalo offense displayed several issues, including a lack of open receivers. According to NextGen Stats, Allen threw an average time of 3.53 seconds, his highest time in a game since Week 15 of 2018.
Despite an average time of pressure of 3.45 seconds, the Dolphins had 17 team pressures and three sacks on Allen, the longest time against a quarterback who had been pressured more than 10 times in a game this season.
“I think [Allen’s] In a good spot,” McDermott said when asked where Allen’s headspace is because of the struggles in the passing game. “He’s intent on making sure we’re doing everything we can to get the passing game moving in the right direction and he has full confidence in our staff and especially Joe, but it’s not like he’s sitting back. He is very proactive in his approach.”
Brady said Monday that if he could go back, he would have thrown the ball more against the Dolphins before the game, because he felt the Bills were more efficient at passing the ball than running it. The Bills gained 23 rushing yards on eight of Allen’s 9-15 carries for 73 yards in the first half, and went 0-for-6 on third down, leading to a 16-point deficit.

Bills defensive line coach Marcus West was also taken to the hospital after Sunday’s game. According to McDermott, he is not back in town yet, but has been discharged and is in “good condition.”
