CINCINNATI — Bengal quarterback joe burro Has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against PatriotThe team made the announcement on Saturday.
Burrow will remain on injured reserve, and Joe Flacco Will make his sixth consecutive start for the Bengals.
Burrow was listed as questionable to return against the Patriots after making significant progress from the turf toe injury that had kept him out of Week 2. The two-time Pro Bowler was a full participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday before being limited on Friday. Bengals coach Jack Taylor said Burrow did everything he could to get himself in condition to play, and Burrow told ESPN there were no setbacks all week.
However, Taylor decided to keep Burrow out for at least an additional week. The Bengals have two games in five days, including a contest Baltimore Ravens Thanksgiving Day is looming.
“You play a game on Sunday, you play a game on Thursday,” Taylor told reporters on Friday. “All those things have to be taken into account. He’s tried to get himself in a position to be ready to go.”
Burrow has been aggressive in attempting to bounce back from past injuries. The most notable example was his calf injury in 2023 which he suffered early in the season and aggravated shortly afterwards.
For Taylor, it was important to make a decision that was in the best interests of the borough.
“I have to keep in mind what’s best for him,” Taylor said. “He’s coming back from injury. He’s been out for a long time. I know he has the right mindset and he’s done everything he can physically. And then I have to keep in mind what’s the best thing for him, what’s the best thing for the team and make the best decision.”
