Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) on Sunday pushed the US immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) officials behind the Trump administration’s argument to allow themselves and their families to wear masks as a means to protect them from vengeance.
Bass told CBS News’s Margaret Brainon on “Face the Nation”, “Okay, first, let me tell you that masked men are not from Los Angeles, and therefore how to retaliate against their families.”
“And then local law enforcement, Los Angeles Police Department, none of which are ever masked, who always recognize themselves and even hand over business cards to someone. So it is absolutely no meaning.”
In an interview clip aired on Sunday, ICE Acting Director Todd Leone told CBS that he would still allow him to do so due to security concerns when he was not a proposer for officers wearing masks.
“However, if it is a tool that snow men and women to keep themselves and their family safe, then I would allow it,” Lyones said. “I push back on criticism that they do not identify themselves.”
