The Minnesota Star’s unplanned and disallowed ejection occurred during a timeout with 7 minutes, 52 seconds remaining. Edwards apparently disagreed with coach Chris Finch removing his starters with the Hawks leading 109–80. Edwards threw in his towel and walked off the bench.
Edwards did not speak to reporters after the game. Finch told reporters that he should have remained on the bench.
Finch said, “Obviously he is disappointed with the performance and rightfully so, but he needs to stay on the field and support his team.”
Edwards led the team with 30 points, making 10 of 18 shots, including three 3-pointers, in 33 minutes.
The high-scoring guard started the night eighth in the NBA with an average of 29.1 points.
He was also ejected in overtime of the Timberwolves’ 142-138 loss at Denver on Thursday. He scored 44 points before being ejected for arguing an incorrect call.
Edwards, an Atlanta native and former University of Georgia star, had friends and family at his Wednesday game, including his grandfather.
