A new analysis by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that most of the calories consumed by American youth in recent years came from “ultra-prosely” foods.
CDC Analysis We saw the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data on the calorie consumption of American youth and adults between August 2021 and 2023.
The report uses the Nova classification system of food, which defines “ultra-processed” foods, which “involve the industrial yogas of processed foods that are usually unnatural additives, such as color or positive.”
NHANES participants of one year and older who recalled a reliable diet starting from 1 on the day of interview were included in the population sample.
A total of 6,633 participants were included in the analysis. Among American youth, about 62 percent of their daily calories came from ultra-processed foods, while in adults this percentage was 53 percent.
In the report, individuals between the age of one to 18 are classified as youth and they are 19 years and older.
Across various age groups, the average percentage of processed food was in youth between the ages of six to 11 years, with their calorie intake of 64.8 percent. Adults were the lowest rate of processed food in 60 and higher with their calories with 51.7 percent.
The survey saw a decrease in consumption of ultra-translated food between both youth and adults between August 2021 and 2023.
The report came immediately after the Trump administration left the Trump administration to restrict benefits from the state supplementary nutrition assistance programs (SNAPs). Used on processed foods,
Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Texas and Florida received federal discounts in 2026, underlining the purchase of junk food with state funds and received federal discounts to accommodate Snap Guidelines.
Wavers, such as one acquired by Colorado, quoted large -scale soda as one of the primary junk foods, who do not want to be eligible for state SNAP benefits.
According to NHANEs, the top five sources of ultra-developed foods for the youth were sandwiches, sweet bakery products, charming snacks, pizza and sweet drinks.
