McLaren’s Lando Norris on British GP final lap: Don’t mess it up

Silverstone, England-like Lando Noris closed the house victory in the British Grand Prix, he considered an overriding in his head: “Just not — it is up.”

Noris defeated McLaren team partner And the championship rival Oscar Piastry to become the 13th British driver to win the famous race for Silverstone.

“Everything I wanted to achieve,” Noris said about the victory after getting out of the car. “Apart from a championship, I think it is as good as the context of emotions, in terms of achievement, getting proud – all this. You know, this is the place where it all started for me, was really watching, watching you on TV many years ago. And now, I can go.”

Silverstone saw an emotional home victory for Lewis Hamilton 12 months ago, but Noris said that his feelings were of “pure happiness”, even though his voice seemed to be a crockery as he spoke to his McLaren team in the lap of victory.

Asked if he shed a tear after winning, Noris said: “No tears! I tried, but not. I don’t know. When I get emotional, I cry, I just smile. It’s pure happiness. It’s a pure joy of the moment that is in you.

“I wish I could cry because I think it sometimes looks better for pictures. But no, I smile instead.”

Noris took the lead after the final round of the pit-stop, forcing Piastry to serve a 10-second penalty when the stewers were understood to have gone incorrectly before the re-rebellion of the security car.

Once he went under the leadership, Noris’s victory never felt in doubt.

Asked what he was thinking in the last interval, Noris said: “I mean, your brain is just very empty. So whatever you can think before the race, you forget. You forget. You mean, I mean, the main thing is always F-this is the rule number one.

“But the last few laps, I was just looking in the crowd. I was just trying to take it all, enjoy that moment because it can never happen again. Hope it does, but these are memories that I will bring with me forever. So incredible achievement.”

How Lando Noris claims his first British GP victory

The number behind the first win of Lando Noris in the British Grand Prix.

Noris saw Hamilton’s record nine British Grand Prix as a fan in 2008 as a fan.

Other British World Champions such as Jackie Stewart, Nigel Mansel and Jim Clarke are also on the famous BRDC Trophy.

“I have joined a long list of very incredible winners, who have won here in the past. Most of them are Lewis! But to join them and, from a British side, is very amazing to continue the British rule here. And only for fans.

“The last two laps are looking at fans and looking at them on their feet – these are moments that no one really finds, none of you are witnesses. This is something that I and very few other, especially for British, witnesses.

“This is a very selfish moment, but it is one of the most special, most incredible, because it is a rare thing that someone feels and to see and see. For me, the best victory.”

The victory takes Noris on the halfway stage within eight points of Piastry in the championship, with 12 races left in the season.
